I'm conflicted - I dig Mon-El but in a very specific capacity (ie not Kara's love interest). Even though I don't care to see him become a hero, his moments of levity that contrast Kara's earnestness is a good combo/dynamic to watch.

I thought Kara's side of things was perfectly fine and I hope they don't make her backtrack and apologise in the future episodes (you know they will). I just want this Guardian storyline dead (even Mon-El becoming a hero too), so Kara can be as harsh as she likes.

It immediately turned me off watching, knowing that focus would be on James and Mon-El. Hard pass.

I feel like we have entered dick measuring contest territory with Mon-El and James both vying to be seen as better in her eyes (for different reasons). I could not care less about either Mon-El's or James' journeys to become heroes especially pitting Kara in the middle of it seemingly to prop them up.

I would applaud the show if her turning him down this episode stuck and that was it - but they're clearly setting it up for her to reciprocate in the future somehow and I am just not invested in this relationship at all (in that way).

It's a common occurrence for me now whenever James shows up and it's just starting with all the Mon-El/Kara romance they're trying to force.

He's proving to have quite the comedic chops this guy and dammit, they're making me like him.

I had a moment of catharsis when Valencia shut down his ridiculous tuxedo because she is doing the thing that I've been internally screaming at Rebecca to do towards Josh. This wedding storyline is the most frustrated I've been with Rebecca in a long while.

Interesting analysis thank you! This contextualises his behaviour for me a great deal, so I'll keep it in mind going forward. I actually assumed Julia has the more 'special' protagonist nature, who is naturally gifted, but I'm not sure I have that correct.

This reminds me of Faking It.

I haven't the faintest idea sorry. All I've read is that they will become good friends more so than antagonists fighting over the same guy.

That's an interesting perspective and I can see that connection now. I remain unspoiled for where they take him so we'll see what happens this season!

I see, thank you! I've seen some comments that his portrayal is better in the show, personally, I'm not sure if it's an actor thing or the characterisation, it could be both for me. In a lineup of great characters, he's just the least interesting.

I have just caught up with this show and I'm on board! Since I haven't read the books, I don't fully understand what's going on but it's still enjoyable. The only character I can't really get invested in is Quentin, but the rest of the cast/characters are brilliant and I'm interested to see where Julia's storyline

Katie Cassidy seems to be good at playing these kind of roles, it suits her more for some reason.

Side note - that massive crossover gave me a taste of what Oliver and Kara interacting would be like and I really dug it. I could watch endless hours of spinoffs showcasing them teaming up.

Or have the two girls fall for each other instead.

I haven't read the comics for which it's based on, but reading about yet another love triangle (I can't think of an instance where this is done well, I'm personally just really adverse to them) which culminates in the guy choosing between the two girls, is a dated trope beaten to death and I have no interest in seeing

Agreed! Barry and Kara or Barry and Caitlin, but neither of those will be happening any time soon if ever unfortunately.

I fully admit to being ignorant where the comics are concerned and I've only seen tidbit spoilers about what could happen to Mon-El - something about lead and space? I just hope it's interesting whatever they do and not simply him donning a cape alongside Kara when I couldn't care less about that.
