Yep, I remember Felicia (yes, that really is her name), but she still isn't well-known outside the fan base. Most people would know the Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus, but you have to have read the comics to know Black Cat. Besides, I think the musical came out before she became a villain again.
When they tried to adapt this for Iron Man, it just didn't work, for some reason…
Yep, the Angels.
I'm getting a mental picture of this…
Early in her career, she was. But yeah, she eventually fell victim to the "she's not really evil just misguided and she can be a hero" bug (see also Scarlet Witch, Mantis, Moondragon, Black Widow, Medusa, Thundra…).
Maybe if they really ran with Felicia's "bad luck" powers, it would have worked.
Black Cat is the only one who might have worked—IIRC, Silver Sable and Madame Web were his allies.
Oh my stars and garters. How much of a train wreck can one number be? Watch that Letterman clip.
"how far off is a story about a superhero from a story about magic like Wicked? "
I groan in your general direction… :D
This is a post for which upvoting it seems grossly inadequate.
Which is a jukebox musical (and therefore has the nostalgia card to play) and whose lead singer borders on being a countertenor (a male singer whose voice resonates like a woman's). You're not going to get away with having a tenor and a bass as your two vocal leads—you'll notice Mary Jane has no solos.
"an awful Spider-Man story "
"if it’s going to be a musical, then we did need a strong female antagonist. There wasn’t really one that Julie could find that already existed in the Spider-Man history."
