Let's save Tony Orlando's house!

And music by Pink Floyd.

Did some good stuff this weekend.

My sentiments exactly.

That's amazing.  I've been doing something similar with my kid.  Her own playlist, I add tunes here and there (and yep, Charlie Brown is on there).  Sounds like you really hit on something.  Nice going.  Hope mine goes as well.

In a lot of ways, just being a kid in a household where parents, or other grown-up family members, actively listened to music - whether putting a cd on, queuing up a playlist, whatever - makes an impact.  Or at least it did on me.  I don't share much of either parents' music tastes, just a fraction here and there.

Oh, in time.

My daughter (6 years old) is developing a nice, diverse taste in music.  I wish I could take full credit for it, but so much of it is innate in her.  She's taken me by surprise many times by falling in love with stuff I play for myself, yet been pretty meh to some things I sorta gently pushed on her.

Yes to No! My kid's 6, and has got it pretty much memorized by now.  I've slowly introduced her to some other Giants songs (Birdhouse in Your Soul!).

People born "into" a different race?

Agree 100% re: Design for Living and Trouble in Paradise.  Design is terrific, and has a lot going for it (Gary Cooper speaking French, for example, which I never thought I'd see), but you're right - Trouble in Paradise is more or less the best thing ever.  "Tonsils!  Positively tonsils!"

Thanks.  I'm really looking forward to the Judt book.  I hope it'll stir some dormant college class memories, and initiate some further study.

I haven't decided exactly what I'm reading to start the new year.  I aim to kick myself in the keister repeatedly to read more this year - some strong self-encouragement… a resolution, if you will.

That's a bummer, as this was the only book I got for Christmas.  Oh well.  Maybe me having lowered expectations will help.

I'm really trying to be polite here.  If you can't figure out that this fucker wasn't necessarily a criminal before he slaughtered 18 children, so according to you no measure of gun control is needed, I will cease being polite.

Just don't.

Just don't.

Don't.
