Who cares about FIFA though? That is probably the most overblown story around (they produce a soccer tournament every four years and….what else) and a perfect example of low hanging fruit. I'm not trying to say "don't like it", I just don't get the praise.

And its fine to do a report on these things, and a story like that can be interesting. But next time you watch, count how many jokes aren't at someone else's expense, or making fun of their sense of style or music they listen to……his style of humor is "point and laugh". Once I realized that I couldn't shake it.

Yeah, watched it until just a few episodes ago. Hey let's go after FIFA a few times, that's a substantial story! BTW, I just heard something shocking and dismaying - US stores like Target sell clothing that is cheaply made by kids in poor countries! And ooooh, the Miss America pageant, hard-hitting.

It may become clearer over time that the first season wasn't all that great beyond the compelling performances of the two leads.

Oliver becoming expert at kicking unpopular topics a few times while they're already on the ground. I really can't stand this guy……I know everyone likes him, but to me he's nothing but smug smirks and low-hanging fruit and nonstop condescension.

Again with the Jill! I can't argue with you, because I don't know what you're talking about! Now, if anyone needs me, I'll be over at Jill's.

Yeah, I called it a rape personally, but I know some people do dispute this…given that it was their wedding night. I know, perspectives can be wild sometimes.

Deserved? I don't even want to ponder what it would take for someone to deserve the hell on earth he got. Kind of a sick justification IMO. Regardless of whether or not anyone could possibly deserve that…..Theon Greyjoy is not that person. He's quite a tragic figure, caught between two worlds.

Pretty lame. I won't be too harsh because I used to be just as lame.

So you're just going to go ahead and assume I'm trying to downplay rape - just to be clear, one of the worst offenses humans are capable of - knowing nothing about me, based on the tiniest fragment of interaction.
Its the itchy trigger finger that gets you types in trouble. I know how satisfying it was to assert your

I kind of doubt it, but then again I'm not looking for a conservative political site but rather an arts and entertainment site. Thanks tho.

I'm not downplaying rape, but rationalize it however necessary.

Probably been mentioned before, but its fascinating to see this rape scene brought up over and over again when a character a few feet away, Theon, was subjected to the most gruesome violence possible over the course of an entire season.
But a wedding night rape, whatever you want to call it, sends the internet into a

John Oliver spends about 75% of his time making fun of people, pointing and laughing at people he thinks are beneath him, etc. He clearly thinks vast numbers of people are stupid idiots. Once you realize how negative and divisive his worldview is, everything is a bit less funny.

Just happened to watch some of Big T Little C last night……on a short list of the last movies you want to remake. The original succeeded on a razor's edge of cheese and bluster, impossible to recreate (probably even for Carpenter), doomed to failure.

    That's a pretty complicated question! A guess:
    1. Personality shift probably common in one's 30s
    2. Extended unemployment and the subsequent humility
    3. Read a bunch of Eric Hoffer.

All this stuff is just self-serving preening and posturing…..it feels *good* to assert that someone is a racist/sexist. It means you are superior to them, it puts them on the defensive, it signals your socially popular and impressively progressive opinions. It makes people feel like they're "fighting the good fight"

I can only imagine there are a few people out there feverishly working toward a feminism backlash, or trying to sabotage it from within……otherwise they're going about it all wrong.

Just accept it, and accept that you are a sexist for not just taking their word for it.

    That's quite meta of you.
