If they introduced Anton prior to this season, it's not very likely that they had this use for him in mind. My understanding is that the show is written season by season.
If there's one thing that upset me about this episode, it was its predictability. When Gavin decided he'd leave the monastery, I knew that Erlich would get stuck in China. When Melcher called Richard at Stanford, I knew that his data was safe and he was calling because he'd just found out he'd been made a cuckold…
Gilfoyle probably named it after Anton LaVey. Also, I think Anton's been around since at least last season.
I wish they hadn't made the pilot so much more about Ruth than about Debbie, because Alison Brie is way too good at playing off-putting and I can't take her character in anything except small doses. I hope there's more balance between the 2 of them moving forward.
