Your analysis of Angel was my experience: first few seasons were good, then it seemed bleh and my friends told me not to give up on it so I didn't and eventually it got good again.

I'll probably be crucified for saying this: I liked Angel, but I LOVED Spike! He had so much more substance. I'll stop there. ;-)
