The explanation I read explained that Trystane wouldn't necessarily know. But it makes sense - Doran would be in on it, which would explain why he was OK with the Sand Snakes poisoning Myrcella; the boat would be a Dornish ship, which would mean the Martells wouldn't be making the tactical mistake of sending their

There was an interesting theory I read that the boat isn't heading for King's Landing, but instead to Meereen; Trystane would be taking over the Quentyn role, and Jaime and Bronn would be interacting with Tyrion and Jorah. It's hopefully what they're doing with the Dorne plotline.

What sexual violence in the fifth season has been especially lurid? The Sansa scene in particular was tame, by the show's standards.

To be fair, a lot of the detractors (including the AV Club, I believe) complained that it changed the scenes in the books to a rape scene. That was really problematic; Jaime was raping Cersei into consent in the books, too.

Definitely agreed. Rape is used by Martin and the show to depict a terrible world which in no way should be romanticized. By showing us the ugliness of this world, it says stuff about our own.

But… Both ASOIAF and Game of Thrones are depicting the psychological after effects. They've had multiple scenes with Sansa detailing this. And they're depicting a patriarchal, misogynistic culture. Cersei's chapters in AFFC are probably the best example of this, but it's clear that the oppressive society limits the

Not to wade in this too late, but this general dismissal of horrors needs to be commented on.

Jamie raped Cersei into consent in the books, though. It's squicky but it's not something that the show changed.

Well, might want to direct them at GRRM, not the show; the show didn't include the dog.

Cersei did (books and show), Dany did (books and show).

I mean… this is the same thing that happens in ADWD. Jeyne is there purely as a narrative tool to "redeem" Reek.

Honestly, if you wanted to have the Hipster God morals, what happened in the sept in the books was rape. Cersei did not consent in the books either.

Will it also gloss over the horrors of the book like "Rape of Thrones" did? The sept scene in the book was ALSO rape… and ADWD had dog sex with Jeyne. Ugh… that "think piece" will be insufferable.

And Jeyne Poole being raped by a dog made narrative sense in the books? Jesus, it's like you're trying to hate this show.

Arcs ebb and flow. Are you trying to argue that now Sansa's a rape victim that she has completely lost all agency and is less of a character? (I know you're not explicitly arguing that, but that's what this line of thought seems to suggest.)

You're on the experts review, so you're clearly a fan of the books and have read them. I don't see how you can be complaining about the show having a rape fetish when the books are much, much worse. (I would argue, too, that the book Cersei/Jamie scene was rape… and that think pieces condemning the show were oddly OK

You're a book reader. You read the Jeyne Poole scene. It's ten times worse than what happened in the show. The rape happens solely for Theon's character development. This bitching at the show seems childish… it wasn't any better by GRRM's hands.

How is this any different from the books though? In ADWD, the Reek chapters are some of the most well-received, and what happens to Jeyne Poole in the books is a lot worse than what happened to Sansa…

Yet everyone is an "other" to everyone else in some way. Like the examples the poster illustrated above - being good at violin or having a high IQ.

Could you imagine how good SHIELD would've been had it premiered in January? Blow through all the Tahiti stuff at the pace they're going through this season just in time for Winter Soldier to come along.
