I was kind of cringing at the rant too, and at times it veered towards melodrama, but I always thought it stopped just short of it. Although some elements of the story seemed contrived, I found most of it believable.

I agree with the 9/11 and Bush stuff. It was wayyyyyy too heavy-handed, especially in conjunction with his rant after the Townes Van Zandt cover, but I don't think the sex scenes were that gratuitous at all. The one in the car, perhaps, but after seeing Blue is the Warmest Color, everything else seems restrained.

It's so unbelievable, but also so hilarious, that Avery is now everyone's sagacious counselor/adviser. I don't buy this character transformation for a second, but it's hilarious and fantastic. Great season finale. It better return. I also laughed when Jessica stubbed her toe the second time, but came close to tears as she herself broke down weeping on her bed. I'm not an actor, nor have I endeavored to be one, but I imagine we all know what it's like to feel the way Jessica did in that scene.

I literally thought I had a fever coming on and became very concerned, until I realized that it was only an intense bout of nostalgia.

Truly fantastic finale. Just reading your review gave me intense "nostalgia chills."
