I've had Per Pertterson's I Curse the River of Time sitting on my coffee table for about three months now, and apparently chose to celebrate finishing grad school this week by bumming myself out. Good so far, but very nordic in tone.

I'm 26 and am single, so every time I get caught riding a shopping cart down what had only MOMENTS before been an empty aisle I can't do much other than stare blankly at rows of veggie chips until the intruders have passed.

Having been to a couple myself, I'd say they can be pretty great as far as breaking down the "walking on thin ice" vibe that some people have with recently divorced people, in addition to being supportive and as a gesture of continuing friendship (especially when the former couple has a lot of shared friends).

Re: grilling - certain men of any race are borderline combative over who gets to cook, unless there is someone that is head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of skill. Even then, it's not unusual to see guys standing around the grill/smoker, just watching meat cook and making Tim Allen noises.

Absolutely. You can only read so much Dostoevksy. I skipped seasons 2-5, and have had to pause for laugh breaks several times (say, the first scene of the season) as someone tries explains the ridiculous bullshit that lead up to this point.
