I think they addressed Randall's birth mother, I believe she died in childbirth. That was when William dropped Randall off at the Fire Department.

I don't agree. He despises, but is incredibly afraid of, Negan. He grew to care about Abraham and the others, and there's no way Eugene has forgotten how they saved his life so many times. Eugene has a deep need to make Rick proud, and he's incredibly loyal. He hasn't forgotten his friendships.

Negan has an in-group persona that is a little different from his out-group persona. With Rick and the other communities he has to be an unrelenting menace. Among the Saviors, he needs to be respected and admired, or feared, depending.

If he does what we think he's going to do, it will make Rick understand how useful he is.
