"truly risible"
It's spelled Ribisi.

Which was it? I've enjoyed them all.

Why I oughta…

I don't necessarily think he was trying to jump on a bandwagon. But I remember at the time reviewers saying "Why would the American market be interested in a Brit doing swing, when so many actual American singers have swing records you can buy?". Kind of like if an Italian set up an Indian restaurant in New Delhi.

Americans don't tend to go nuts for Brits trying to be Yanks, like releasing a swing record. If you want a swing record, buy a record sung by an American.

Or the pink oboe.

Eminen was plainly wrong when he made that assertion.

That's exactly what I thought. I tried to think of some kind of analogy – "Love Alfred Hitchcock but have never heard of Psycho"? – then realised I couldn't be bothered.

You want me to link you to posts from my Facebook friends about the film?

I thought he nailed it. After I saw the film I ran to read his review and was delighted to see that he picked up on all the things that bothered me about it.

I wouldn't call the Monkees an influence on punk any more than Frank Sinatra's My Way. It's not like punk groups were recording songs in a Monkees style.

Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, Father Ted, Peep Show, The Thick of It…

Eight hours is a long drive!

Hugh Grant's band in Music and Lyrics was more like Bros or Spandau Ballet or Wham. Jerome Flynn already had a successful acting role before he had chart success. It's more like if Matt Le Blanc had recorded a few songs after the second season of Friends.

Neither Cowell nor Flynn would call it a wife-beater. In the UK, a wife-beater is someone who beats up their wife. Brits call it a 'vest'.

I've always thought he looked like David Byrne. Appropriate given their name comes from a Talking Heads song.

Veronica Mars Volta.
That is all.

"I made an audible groaning sound"

They got popular beat combos a plenty.
