I don't think that's really the same thing. There really isn't some grand history of offensive Alternate Confederacies in film and TV. There is a history of offensive blackface.

Even if you dislike that example there has been improvements in Afghanistan since what we did with the Taliban. Afghanistan has drug-dealing, poverty, abuse etc still. I don't deny that or even that drug-dealing worsened. But by most measures they have improved.
