Where's The Middle and The Goldbergs review?
As a so-called Millennial (I'm 30, so I fall on the upper end of that), I have two comments. First, I hate that term. Second, I agree that forcing conversations about the cultural differences of millennials and gen-Xers into this season is both stupid, nonsensical, and is being played out as if to have a greater…
The first trailer had me and my wife excited about the concept. I pictured a stork having to deliver a baby and going through several misadventures. I even pictured a Pixar-esque tragic backstory where the stork was trying to make up for a past delivery gone awry where he delivered the wrong baby or something. It's…
It took me about a half hour and probably 10 tries. The first fight is difficult because the zombie guys can take away 75 points of your health in one hit. Once you get past that fight, you can zoom in with the pistol and snipe the next group of guys. The way I did it was to climb the cavern walls on the right side of…
I've played a handful of the bigger games on the list. Fire Emblem Fates was excellent and very satisfying. I also loved Dark Souls III and played the heck out of that one, getting the platinum trophy despite the last 20 hours of gameplay being nothing but un-fun, tedious grinding.
I got this game a day early courtesy of the Square Enix store from which I ordered the limited edition with the Beck figure. The game crashed when I tried to load the first boss stage. The gameplay was mediocre, periodically charming, often frustrating. The ice boss, whatever its name is, has an annoying voice, and I…
Stray thoughts on miscellaneous games announced/demoed at E3:
Reading the interview, I felt that the interviewer's job was borderline painful. I get the guy from Cedar Point was being super professional and answering questions directly and in a positive light, but let's be honest: it's an interview about roller coaster patrons. Have some fun. The guy has got to have at least one…
The Atelier games and I have a strange relationship. I own every single one released in North America, which I believe started with Atelier Iris on PS2. I've played Atelier Iris but hit a glitch probably 3/4 of the way through the game and couldn't progress any further. I loved that game's soundtrack though.
The interface and menus are the worst part about it. The guys I'm playing with have been playing for a month or so, so they've been helping me figure out what everything does. Once you figure out that your character level maxes at 30 and your weapons can only really be improved at that point by modding them (and…
I've had Uncharted 4 just sitting there by my PS4 untouched. I've recently gotten into a free-to-play PS4 game called Warframe. It's got some dumb sci-fi story and has elements resembling a poor man's Mass Effect. For a free-to-play game, it's surprisingly deep. Lots of fun if you do co-op. The game can get repetitive…
To whoever is in charge of deciding which series to review each week, I would urge that The Middle and The Real O'Neals receive joint coverage since they'll be airing the same night.
I started replaying the Uncharted series the other day. I'm about halfway through the first game on the PS4 collection disc. Man, that game does not hold up compared to its successors. I'm playing on the highest difficulty, but it's frequently on the side of unfair rather than being fun. My copy of Uncharted 4 arrived…
Miscellaneous Thoughts:
I left that movie saying to my wife, "That wasn't a kids film. That was an adult movie adapting college-level psychology courses to colorful, child-friendly characters." I loved it, though it'll be interesting to see if our daughter likes it when she's old enough to watch and appreciate it.
It led to the first time in 7 seasons where Manny made me laugh: "And that was the first time I used the F word."
I teach/coach an extracurricular program at my old high school and every now and then, someone will drop the "best years of your life" line. I quickly disavow them of that falsehood. High school sucks in so many ways. College is awesome.
That's interesting about Girl Meets World. I've watched the handful of episodes I knew to have characters from the original show in it beyond the core cast. Some of the best episodes of Boy Meets World, in my opinion, were in seasons 3 and 4 where the show dealt with as-real-life-as-a-kids-sitcom-can-get issues in…
I was long outside the Disney Channel years by the time That's So Raven began, but I have a younger sister who's six years younger, so I saw some episodes of the show.
I vaguely remember that. The thing I remember the most is what you pointed out above: after two very long books, there's so much left to go that is alluded to but never addressed. The series' structure is so off, and that's giving the benefit of the doubt that the third book will have all the meat. I don't even…
