Interesting, I think that about sums up my thoughts on the topic in a way more concise and educated way than I would have been capable of doing. Thanks for the input.

My little knowledge of it left me thinking… "Wait, so they are trying to say John Fogerty cannot write songs, sing, and play guitar like he always has?"

The John Fogerty thing was bullshit wasn't it? They were essentially suing him saying he couldn't write songs that sounded similar to songs he had previously written?

I guess what I should clarify is that I think the stretch is that the two songs are so similar that Petty should be given songwriting credit for it. Again, I think with tweaking things here and there and selectively splicing pieces together that situations like this would happen with alarming frequency.

Well played, like I said there may be better examples. I assumed they were a safe band to pick because of their wide range of different sounds and the amount of influence they have on music.

I hear it now more than ever… still seems like a stretch to me though.

Right? Doesn't this mean every song fitting basic guidelines could end up being the "same"? Since the threshold is if the songs sound the same after manipulating pitch and speed of the track…

…. Must be my massive lack of musical talent showing through…. But I don't hear anything that sounds more than vaguely similar between the two.
