I understand that perspective. The show is definitely about female empowerment. I'm just really surprised how many people are denying something so obvious and trying to use side characters to disprove how so many of the main male characters are portrayed. Love makes you blind I guess.

There are no buffoonish female characters in Korra. Toph is the most outlandish personality but she's no buffoon. Meanwhile Bolin et al all share some of the same buffoonish traits - boastful, clueless, overly talkative and just plain over the top silly. I'm not saying I don't like the characters or the show but if

Sato has has about 7 minutes of screen time since season 1. That was more about tying up Asami's storyline than him. Other than Mako (the sometime love interest) and Tenzen we have Bolin, Varrick, Prince Wu, Boomy, and even Meelo. The only male characters in this show that aren't clowns are the villains.

I get the whole powerful female character thing but why do all the males have to be buffoons? Penis = comedy relief.

When you made the comparison to Hannibal, suddenly it all became clear to me what the problem with this show and almost all the comic book shows is. Hannibal put more resonance into a pile of deer antlers than these shows put into plot, character and dialogue. Say what you will about Nolan's excesses but at least he

From the first scene with Mack I knew Trip's days were numbered.

Why does the Master look like a Jim Henson character? Those big puffy hands of his are pure Sesame Street.

Luciano seems very different from the brash loudmouth he was in earlier scenes. Something tells me those scars on his face go deep down to the soul. I'm looking forward to the flashbacks.

Amazing finale. We are truly in a new golden era of TV. Can't wait for season 3.

I was being a bit reductionist, but then again I find your interpretation of the character in general to be a bit reductionist. Anyway, let's agree to disagree. I am interested in hearing what Tawney says to Daniel in the hotel, as she has been very cagey thus far.

Wait, so Teddy ogling his wife is a violation of a sacred boundary but Daniel choking him out, stripping him and pouring coffee grains on his butt hole is some cosmic retribution? And I'm the one projecting on the characters? Hilarious.

From RTTR's comment above (which was well upvoted).

Calling Tawney "opaque" is not a value judgment. She is, in my opinion, one of the better written characters in the show precisely because she keeps her cards so close to her vest. I think that's why the "soapyness" of certain scenes sticks out in the show, because Rectify really tries to keep the direct

How do you know why Tawney was crying? She is completely opaque. Go back and look at the coldness with which she treated Teddy. And of course the fight had to do with Daniel. In the episode before she went to see Daniel and didn't tell him anything about it. She lied to his face about where she was and what she was

You guys are really underestimating Tawney. I would say that she is perhaps the most opaque character in the show. I think this is because she is repressed in many ways. Frankly, Tawney never really explains what she is feeling and why, that is why it is so important to look very closely at her actions.

That fight scene was vintage Hong Kong-level amazing. It reminded me of a Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao final battle. Really amazing.

The lack of sympathy for Teddy Jr among commentators on this show is bordering on criminal, especially since the show runners have gone to such great lengths to create such a nuanced character. I could understand such a simplistic analysis of Ted if all we had was the first season to go on, but at this stage of season

It wasn't about giving Kristen space. That would be the nice guy buffoonery. He told her what she needed to hear, which is the sign of someone no longer restricted by fear and weak-minded notions of civility.

I guess fan service is effective.

I thought the mocking disdain for Conservatives was a bit heavy handed. If it was all black comedy with a soft touch moral center I could enjoy it more. But its an absurd brand of morality that makes ideological opponents bigger caricatures than mythological undead monsters.
