I was rewatching Clueless the other day and it really makes me nostalgic for the '90s if just because I don't think a film today could do the adapting classic literature to the present thing so well or humbly. It manages to be its own beast and does it so perfectly. Also Turk has a small role.

My post wouldn't have implied that, but rather have been a turnabout way to call my sister one because even anonymously on the Internet I am mean.

Trust me as someone who's sister is an avid collector of this shit it has gone well beyond avalanche. Not movies, but don't google yaoi.

You're not bad. You just have good tastes. Modernity has not been good for the gay arts I feel afraid to say. It's all bullshit, but fortunately looking under stones turns up shit that isn't just low rent crap that a twelve year old could have made (better).

Apparently the site won't let you post a common term used for gay man's female friend which rhymes with sag bag.

Where does everyone come up with their fag hags? I've always had to depend on my sisters and their total gossips.

Certainly these movies need less Boys Don't Cry endings.

Yeah, it seems best just to avoid anything not by an established auteur. Stupid self loathing films.

Not to be funny, but for all my (and I'm sure others) kvetching gay cinema has nothing on lesbians for getting the very short end of the stick. At least there are movies coming out on a regular basis. That's not even getting into the lack of stuff for trans people.

If you're south of the border Julian Hernandez's latest is coming out some time this year.

Oh wait, he was talking about Fucking Amal? That's the sort of great cinema I'm precisely talking about Europe having. No bullshit.

I feel as if America is severely behind in terms of showing gay romance. Not only in terms of the ghettoized nature which is prevalent elsewhere too, but the stories are all the same sort of anguished poop. That's why Weekend was such a revelation. Here was in the english language a film about two guys getting

He didn't say mainstream though. It's totally ghettoized, but there is a huge shitty teen romances for straight women and gay boys genre out there.

Between him and Sava it almost seems like AVC wants to be something beyond homogenized hipster wonderbread.

But in many of the cases brought up thus far like yesterday's film and Pretty in Pink the story isn't being told by any sort of male POV, but rather that of a woman which if anything in America would be closer to a closeted experience since society still largely frowns on female expression of sexuality. If we were

For a short period of time I lived in Middlesex, PA. Nobody was willing to bring up how silly that name is.

To be honest I don't see this at least in the cases brought up thus far. Could you maybe expand upon that?

I have (before the reviews started pouring in actually). The only flaw to the film in my opinion is the pacing which is a serious flaw, but not any more so than what you usually see in modern cinema meaning an hour should be cut. Beyond that it is a truly strange violent film topping some of the absurdity of Rango

Also random trivia since you brought it up anyway Danny Kaye actually played a character originated by Gary Cooper when Howard Hawks decided to remake his own film Ball of Fire into A Song is Born.
