I think the way the action on Eros played out was an attempt to avoid making it seem like this was going to become "Zombies in Space," which of course is NOT where the show is headed. If the Eros Incident had been too note for note from the books, it might have given that impression.

As the story progresses past book 1, she's going to have plenty to do.

The main thing that Tycho does is spin up asteroids. Fred notes a few episodes ago that building a ship is out of the ordinary for them.
