The Irish epic that story is most explicitly referencing, Sweeney Astray, has an incredible translation by Seamus Heaney. It's SO funny, SO intense, sometimes quite sad, and just gets exponentially weirder with every page.

I actually quite like the way the goofy accent functions as a representation as an American's idea of and Irish accent, but with none of the forced sing-song shit that's usually thrown in.
