Very well said, and funny, too.

Something VERY fishy about that . . .

Cathy, to be fair, they are editing for high drama and conflict, not to subjugate a race. They include as many unflattering moments on Jason as they can, if it forwards the central conflict. & it really isn't "Everybody Loves Jason" (although that's a funny title), lots of people on this thread are Jason haters. I

I think vallegirl's point is that Effie seems more invested in hiring black people, than she is Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans, the handicapped, etc. But she can speak for herself.

Sorry but no part of your argument is fair. He never detested the writer, he requested a different writer before ever really meeting the assigned one. And when that got shot down, he embraced the assignment and grew to love his support.
I am an old fart. But I recognize that all those insufferable new to the job

This is what I enjoy about your comments. Deeply opinionated, but not predictable.

You have very interesting opinions. I mean that, no sarcasm.
& I think it is incredibly ironic what a complicated racial web has been weaved by Effie's agenda.
But in this case I think you assign her more agency than she actually owns. She may have liked Jason's script more than "Not Another Pretty Woman", but that

sorry, I mis-referenced, I thought that when you said she went to the line producer to get money, you were referring to the $300,000 to shoot on film, not the $20 to $40,000 of underages to put towards the final stunt day. But still, no, she is the line producer, she was referencing her own actualization/burn rate in

    wow, good one! Nailed it.

sorry DP, but given that you couldn't even identify Effie as the line producer (in an earlier comment), I'd be careful about citing your 25+ films as reason for the rest of us to bow down to your opinions on what's going on with Effie. Lots of people on this thread have extensive production experience, that doesn't

sorry; she's the line producer. The Executive Producers (Affleck, on behalf of himself and Damon) went to the President of HBO ("studio") to get the money. & please don't lecture me on how I need to "work on a lot of films" to see what is or isn't unusual, I've line produced or 1st A.D'd about 6 features with 1st time

I'd bet that if this film turns out OK and he writes a script that is perceived to be really good, he'll get another shot.

I just think it's pretty much impossible to know how the others would have done, except that they would have stuck with what sounded like a pretty stupid script. We'll find out how Jason did on Nov. 1st. And even then I doubt there will be any kind of scientific consensus among the commentariat.

What if he told his mom? What if it was the biggest part he'd ever been offered?

my interpretation of his point is that legitimate issues such as sexism sometimes get derailed and devalued by what has come to be known as politically correct culture, in which people feel empowered to make sweeping condemnations of "dominant culture" without taking into consideration the merits of each case. Big

As I recall it was Damon, Affleck and Len(?) HBO Pres who lobbied hardest for Jason. The guys who run the show. For what it's worth.

think you may have missed actorvious' point. but everyone has a right to their opinion . . .

yeah, I hear you, and think your instinct is right. If so, big oversight.

still a mystery. Not referenced in show. Last night Effie retweeted W. Kamau Bell's tweet, "Why was tonight's show called "Hot Ghetto Mess"?

1001 ways to stage a car crash, they are having a power struggle over including a car flip within it, an adjustment that Effie says will cost $40,000, which may or may not be available from surpluses earned so far.
