Come on. It's probably the most diverse crew in the history of film making. They knew by hiring Effie they'd have a beneficial ripple effect in that department. I applaud everyone for that. It's her meddling in casting that kills me. Honestly not her job.

I was being polite, dirkwad (unlike now).
I actually met Cimino days before the release, as he was agonizing over the sound of the release prints. let me know if you want to hear the story.

non-union, non-L.A. crews, no mega-fees to a very top heavy EP team . . . you really do have way more bang for your buck when you do an obscure film out in the hinterlands.

because he is concentrating on how not to go ballistic over her predictable passive aggressive inability to communicate clearly

Script set in 2014. Effie recasting silent bits on basis of race without consulting director a fireable offense.

yeah, here's part of the answer from an interview with one of the Executive Producers: “It’s important that people understand that we know that one of the biggest criticisms of Project Greenlight
in the past has been the lack of diversity with people saying, ‘it’s a
bunch of white dudes choosing white dudes.’ So, we

Don't recall HBO saying no; he raised safety concerns, probably because that horrific Sarah on the RR tracks thing had just happened and he was (rightfully) covering his ass. He just wanted to be sure they had enough money to do it right.

last night Effie retweeted this from W. Kamau Bell:

You don't ask, you don't get. It's his job. He knows he can make it work without the flip, at this point I think he resents how Effie has a tendency to make creative decisions behind his back. He's fighting the good fight here — she's playing dirty. Or can't remember what she said, and is having difficulty keeping her

She's burned at least 4 bridges (Farrelly, Joubert, Damon, Jason) but she'll get work. She's referenced two projects since this one, and there is a good deal of support for her within the independent community.

It would be the line producer's responsibility to set reasonable deadlines for production decisions such as location. She should have set an earlier deadline. Is he really supposed to know Beverly Hills night shooting restrictions, and how many permissions are required? That one's on her. Classic case of not having

    Heaven's Gate?

Interesting. At first I wondered if part of the consideration in hiring Effie was that she would bring diversity to an otherwise white sausage fest. Don't know. But in hindsight it was a brilliant decision because without her combative personality and anti-dominant race agenda, it would be a pretty boring series.
    I

    sorry, not understanding your point.

20/20 hindsight: given that she's been doing this 20 years, the one thing she might have done is given him an earlier deadline on location selection. To protect him. I mean, she knows the Beverly Hills restrictions on night shooting, right? Not her 1st barbque.

Totally agree. I am gobsmacked by Joubert's fear of conflict.
I think if this was a more typical production, where the director had a say in the line producer hire, and things devolved to this point, he would have insisted that Effie be banned from the set, and Joubert and the 1st A.D. would communicate all of her info

I get that this is a reality show, and everybody has a right to enjoy hating on whomever they want. But really, Cathy: there is .0001% evidence that Jason is racist. This is about power and ego, not race.

Dare I say it: she seems lonely. And excited to have the attention of the GP cameras. She has admitted in subsequent interviews that in watching the series she's learned a lot about how combatively she comes off, and wants to work on that. So I give her that.

She's the line producer. She's performing a casting coup de'etat. Completely outrageous break of chain of command. (Not uncommon to give a line producer a producer credit as a courtesy.)
