Thank you for another thoughtful and apt analysis of a Mad Men episode. I just read Vulture's recap of this one and it was awful. I'm glad AV Club continues to be awesome.

I don't think that scene next to the embalmed was meant to showcase them not seeing eye to eye. I think it was narrative set up to the scene where Beth probes Darryl about believing in good people in the world where he silently admits that it's because of Beth that he's changed his mind.
