Good idea, I always wanted to try that one!

It was! I couldn't believe the show went there.

I agree about what you're saying, but it doesn't bother me as much. Maybe it's because the drastic things aren't treated 100% seriously, there's always room for humor even when I think they should be pushing harder for the drama (like when Alvin died). But if I were to bet, I think he is plotting things on the fly.

He does seem to be a lot more invested in this show than in any of his other current ones, including the one which's about to end after 12 years. He gets credit for the story of most episodes and he actually wrote last week's episode where Alvin died.

The show's only supporter on the AV Club was Todd and he's gone now, so…

Yeah, it probably won't. Actually, I think Parenthood only became a truly great show in its third season. It's a learning curve for Katims, I suppose (except for FNL, though he did screwed up in the second season, which I guess makes things even).

Is anybody watching About a Boy? I'm marathoning through the final episodes of Parenthood with my girlfriend and I know I'll be missing my weekly dosage of Jason Katims. Anybody likes that? Even if the show's about to be canceled as well, I'd be willing to check it out if it's at least decent (back when it first

Perhaps Southland? Well, season 2 of Southland isn't actually bad, it's more like a show that hasn't figure itself out yet. But boy was season 3 an absolutely incredible thing to watch.

Oh, I miss the days of the ironic A. Remember? Back when we all had long since forgotten about Gossip Girl, then came the F grade for the series finale and we all couldn't help ourselves but to grade that an A.

Yeah, I said lucky there, but I'm very curious to see if the Oscar thing will have any appeal at all for the show. We know for a fact that the franchise is hanging by a thread at this point, so if it succeeds, a big reason for that will have to be for Patricia Arquette's Oscar.

Exactly. I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that he's gay. Seriously. This thing that people have that everybody is straight until proven otherwise is so outdated by now.

It is braver because of the "closeted" part. They can't advertise that as something progressive for the show because the kid didn't come out yet. So they celebrated his difference without thinking about what it would look like for the show. That is what I meant when I said it was braver. I had no intention of saying

Yeah. That was the biggest mistake they did last season. Basically he got send off because he was a shy and quiet kid. He did nothing wrong in that challenge.

This reminds me that just last season, J.K. Simmons had his own NBC sitcom, which was cancelled, and now he's winning an Oscar. Poor NBC.

I would kickstart a show which was just him and Gordon speaking French.

Actually, I think the show did a far braver thing last season and awarded a closeted gay kid. Obviously no journalists would ever dare to say that as that's something very delicate to be discussing, but Logan is gay.

I never thought Oona had any chance of winning. She was on the bottom for two or three weeks straight. I think Gordon only kept her around because he liked her personality (and how could anybody not?).

Okay, I'll just have to take your word on that. I never watched a full episode of the thing, but the parts I did, he just seemed to be doing what it was required (recite cheap and expository dialogue).

Well… nobody's perfect?

He is or was. He doesn't get to showcase his talent for over a decade, so I can't be certain anymore.
