Ummm, The folks in ST are constantly meeting predecessors of one sort or another. Who knows how long they've had a comparable civilization.

Transporter limits got broken as plot required in TOS.

"The City on the Edge of Forever" is pretty straight-up science fiction and is pretty damn good TV, too.

Also, lots and lots of writers, not all of whom respected the shows "bible".

Actually they're both fantasy with science fiction elements. Some episodes of Star Trek TOS might qualify as science fiction, but the franchise has been converted to pretty much action fantasy with technobabble over time. Star Wars started out as action fantasy. Neither have plots which follow from a reasonable set
