Asians are one of the least cast groups in this country, so it’s great that the show creates opportunities for so many.

Not really. Lane’s role shrank and shrank as the show went on.
No one ever said she was guilt free, so I don’t know why you are so compelled to keep mentioning that. Are you so triggered by men being held accountable that you just have to point out a woman’s wrongs?
Yup. “They didn’t ask to be here.”
It sounded like she was saying “Jamey” to me.
The trauma is “being/feeling responsible for Scotty’s death.”
Not once did I pretend she was a shining beacon of light. I was responding to someone who hated her character, claimed she did the worst thing possible to the guy (I guess cheating is worse than murdering a family member), then claimed that the guy in the story did nothing wrong.
You’re totally right. The guy who stalked her and murdered her father wasn’t abusive at all. And the woman who wouldn’t do what the dude wanted was a total bitch. He’s allowed to have emotions, but she’s not allowed to have her own reasons.
They don’t look alike at all. For starters, Kamala is darker than Mehgan and hasn’t surgically whittled her nose down to ambiguity.
He pressured her to keep a baby she didn’t want and called her a bitch BEFORE she blocked him, so he was already trash. Also, he was operating under the belief that the baby was his, ignorant of her deceit and still did those awful things.
I saw it as a commentary on Hollywood casting. The young, hot daughter often tends to somehow whiter than everyone else in her family.
If they didn’t tell me it was Chris Martin, I would have just thought he was some dude, but once they said it, I was like “oh, yes, of course.”
I love the idea of Spike Lee, but in reality, I think he’s fine. Sometimes he’s good and sometimes he’s a disaster.
No, she is very pale and does not look Indian. You must be thinking of some other actress, because this one looks like a white lady with a Darque Tan.
She asked him to let her have a moment, some quiet, some space, and he insisted on smothering her instead. So she exploded.
From what I gathered from googling, she’s like the embodiment of their beauty standard.
The actress playing Princess Jasmine is half white which is on par with just about any other studio when it comes to casting women of color. Mulan not being mixed is an utter shock (and a delight).
Princess Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin is half white, so I’m actually shocked that Disney didn’t pull that stunt again.
I read what was written. That you were compelled to unnecessarily play devil’s advocate on the poster’s behalf and teach a class on objectivity in criticism, in addition to assuming two shows starring young black women were redundant said a lot to me. That last one really colored your entire post. Intent versus…
You’re black in America, so you’ve spent your 65 years being trained to read media from a majority (white) perspective. It’s so ingrained in you that you actually believe criticism is objective and not delivered through a particular (white, hetero, male) lens. Now you’re suggesting that, while a black critic reviews a…
