Yeah, it is- I had a copy of the original book that was made when the movie came out, and it had a bunch of interviews with the director and writer. They mentioned that they saw Men in Black 2 and thought "well, we can't do it that way now"

When the movie was being made, Men in Black II had just come out, which had a character with two heads that was done in the more traditional way. If they'd done it the same way in Hitchhiker's, it would've read as a ripoff.
