Both good recos! I loved Station Eleven, especially. I found Cronin's work a little too "beach read-y", but that didn't stop me from tearing through them.

I think it got caught up in the whole Brad Pitt backlash/backlash-of-the-backlash, etc. Its rare judged on its on merits. Which are quite okay!

I'd say his best movie was Rango or the first Pirates, personally. But agreed - Verbinski's flair covers many sins, even in his weaker films.

Too funny. I've never actually stopped to think whether I agree with Dowd or Iggy…just whether I appreciate their review style. From that POV, I'm 100% in on Iggy and only so-so on Dowd. I really should think about whether I trust their reviews vs. just read them separate of the films themselves!

Thanks, all! Will do :)

Excellent, thank you!

God speed! Sounds like a good problem to have.

I live in a small apartment; I demand my wife and I do annual purges of our book shelves. It is always a high-emotion time. The good news is we're still together.

I think you certainly could!

I've never read any of his stuff - where would you recommend I start?

If it helps, there is the massively awesome "Malazan Reread of the Fallen" on Tor.com, which I found to be incredibly valuable for my first read through. It is almost like having a discussion group for each chapter. Few books, IMO, warrant one more than the Malazan works.
