Seconded! I mean I certainly don't remember that book as well as you do but it is good, and canonical.

Sheriden was literally killed, how much further down the peg does he have to be taken?
I dunno you guys- I guess I just don't mind a genuine old-school hero in my space opera sometimes. I like the complicated anti-heroes as much as the next person but there's room for both on TV.
Re: forgetting about the Worker Caste- Rowan is assuming it is a failure of story telling. It may very well be- but could it not also be deliberate? That we the viewers didn't meet any because they represent the "every man," the forgotten masses, which is kind of Delenn's point.
It doesn't help that the whole Minbari…
Last week's discussions gave me the idea that I'm in the minority finding Garibaldi's turn working for me as a story, and Rowan's review confirms that I guess.
The present-day stuff is a story framing device used to connect all of the stories from all of the games.
It's a pseudo-science fiction thing where the present-day character can live through memories of his ancestor via Matrix-like technology.
It's wonderful seeing love for this band and album, a staple of my youth that holds up well. Early 90s "grunge" type rock seems to have become people my age (36) or younger dismiss or have out-grown, but I still hold the best of it- like any other subgenre- in the highest regard.
All of those bands are called "grunge" now but their musical backgrounds and primary influences are all different, that's I think what makes them still sound good to me after all these years.
Pearl Jam- classic rock
Nirvana- 80s alt/indie rock
Soundgarden- prog and metal
Alice In Chains- heavy metal
Yeah- I HATE "hair" metal, I can't even enjoy it "ironically" like most metal fans my age I know, but Appetite is one of my favorite albums, even though I can totally see how it can be considered a heavier "hair" metal album.
I think- in addition to its grittier vibe- it's because there is more syncopation and rhythmic…
Of course there are casual fans, I personally know quite a few.
We here on AV Club have to remember that most people don't read/write about TV shows on the internet, they just watch them.
"If the Ferengi were anything like a real people"
Well, they're not, they're [very terrible] comic relief. Thus that dislike for all things Ferengi among any Trekkies.
Yeah I don't but that whole "it's their own culture, we can't judge" thing.
Ferengi, like all the other major races, are essentially human-like. That's kind of the premise of Trek, that sentient/intelligent beings have more in common than different.
But it kind of fits the Trek universe. Kirk & Picard would often swoop in and radically alter and "improve" entire planets with their heroic actions and clever speeches. The entire DS9 mirror universe is a result of Kirk telling beardy Spock that one man can make a difference.
I have always hated the Ferengi, and while that's not a unique opinion amongst Tred fandom, there are those that defend it.
The worst thing it does- yes, even worse than Profit & Lace- is this exact sort of thing when the series is wrapping up, there are galactic ramifications, war and peace, revolution, amazing…
I actually think the idea of the first couple of games could be decent historical-action flicks if you take out the Desmond/present day stuff and sci-fi bullshit. Michael Fassbender stealth-murdering his way around the Crusades in order to uncover a conspiracy would be cool.
The guy that attacked Mormont and Snow in Castle Black is a wight. They are like "zombies"- unthinking moving corpses.
White Walkers are the bosses, the blue-eyed baby thieves.
I think "wargs" in this series just means you can telepathically occupy animals.
So the wildling played by Garret from the Office was a warg, using his powers of scouting, and he never had visions of past or future.
Jojen and Bran are more powerful than that with more powers, and Bran is even more powerfuller as Jojen…
Yep.
Also I love that these are heroes who out-thought, defeated, and exiled the most ancient powerful forces in the galaxy, but lost a battle to regular people.
Yeah but it wasn't deliberate, that's the point. I guess I don't mind it because it does happen. Rarely do we take stock of everyone in our lives and especially people with the weight of the galaxy on their shoulders like the characters in this show. Someone like Sheridan isn't going to just think "gee I wonder how…
Well sure they do- I mean they "show" that Sheridan and Delenn want to breed a race of Minbari hybrids to rule the earth.
One of my favorite line deliveries of all time is during his first appearance, when making up with Sinclair: "You tawk like a MinbAhri" I always hear that in my head when someone says some thing wise. Because I'm a loser.
