"Lights" had some great songs. The albums since haven't grabbed me though.
There was a period of time he was "hiding out" here in Charlotte, NC of all places. (He's apparently good friends with Dale Earnhardt Jr?? And was staying at his guest house??) Of course I as the only person who would've even recognized him

Oh, I have 'em all. Like I said above, I think Avalanche might be the best thing he's ever done. (Plus I have the original vinyl, which goes for some real $$ these days.)
But Vancouver, Hospital Music, and Lights From Endangered Species are all top-notch… As good as the best MGB.

Rearviewmirror for a variety of reasons. Although Indifference comes close.

Sigh… I can't be the only one who loves Matthew Good, right?
I discovered him during the botched American release of Beautiful Midnight and never stopped being a fan. IMHO he's had the best run of any artist in the last 20 years (besides Radiohead)…. Underdogs and Audio Of Being and Hospital Music and especially

Great interview, and Dunn's comments about Coldplay were spot-on.
In fact, I know exactly the show she was talking about. Summer of 2001, WHFS Festival in D.C., and Coldplay went on before Marilyn Manson and the crowd was NOT feeling it.
A couple days later, they were in Atlanta playing their own show at The Tabernacle

It definitely doesn't hit the transcendent highs of originality of the latest Ariana Grande or Megan Trainor (who both got rated higher than Frank Ocean).
Way to keep corporate synergy alive, AV Club.

Between this grade and the one for AMSP, I'm not sure why anyone would come here for music reviews. Or music anything.
Except for HateSong. AV Club will always have C-list comedians mocking songs that were popular 20 years ago.

Fair enough, and Dark Side is monstrously overplayed.
But Piper is one of the best "psychedelic" records ever, and sounds nothing like the Dark Side era due to Syd Barrett.
Obscured By Clouds is basically a small-scale sequel to Meddle and well worth a listen.
And Animals is my personal favorite… Not overplayed at all,

"Since the show was released a summer ago…"

Up voted for the surprising non-snarky love of Pearl Jam.
Down voted for complete brush off of Pink Floyd, easily one of the best rock bands in history. (No, seriously… Piper and Meddle and Animals alone.)

SpoilerAlert: All future episodes get a B-.

As well as Emmy Rossum (about 7 years ago)… Christina Applegate… Lara Flynn Boyle… Mary Louise Parker… Samantha Mathis… Sarah Jessica Parker (pre-Broderick)… Amy Smart (Varsity Blues era)… Monica Potter (she got "Ms. Potter's Lullaby")… and Wynona Ryder (because of course).
Basically if you're a hot single actress

Agreed, but when I first heard the story, I doubted how much of it was true. Seeing confirmation online and through Wikipedia, including the court case, makes me think the guy knew what he was talking about in regards to the shady business dealings.
And again, not blaming Rob Thomas necessarily. But it's odd he

I was living in South Carolina in the 90's, which was Ground Zero for bands like this (Hootie, obviously). A friend of mine worked promo for some bands, and one night we got drunk with the former manager of Tabitha's Secret and he just started spilling the beans.
I figured it was mostly angry venting, but most of what

Scrawler, please read my above comment on the REAL history behind Matchbox 20. It will confirm how well founded your Rob Thomas hatred truly is.

August And Everything After… But yeah, it does. Recovering The Satellites as well. After that it's a short drop-off (This Desert Life is a weird little record produced by Cracker's David Lowery) and then a plunge off the cliff.

For all you Rob Thomas haters out there (so, all of you?), the ACCURATE history of Matchbox 20 should give you some enjoyment. (Warning: It doesn't paint R. Thomas as the victim the way he does in the above interview.)
—Tabitha's Secret was a successful Orlando, FL band in 1995, being courted by several labels, thanks

I thank/blame Mr. Robot for my sudden renewed interest in blasting "Take Me Home" by Phil Collins. Not always while burning large amounts of money.

Yep. Totally reminds me of that scene in that thing.

I never thought of Night Ranger's awesome cheese-fest "Sister Christian" as a terrifying song… Until I saw Boogie Nights.
Damn those firecrackers!
