Yes, and slavery is actually integral to Mansfield Park as a novel. Patricia Rozema's adaptation (the one starring Frances Conroy) does some interesting work with it, explicitly changing Tom and his father to make them more or less sympathetic according to their enthusiasm for slavery.

DS9 stands the test of time. While TNG has some great stuff, but it's so uneven and so far from the serialized format that we're used to now that it's best watched by picking out the good episodes and skipping the rest.

I started with the 1st season episode "Old School" & found it a great way to get sucked in.

Loved this episode. Terry Crews is so fantastic.

More importantly, Rose holds real responsibility for Jane's artificial insemination. Yes, Luisa made the mistake, but in the normal course of events Luisa would have called Jane back and given her medication to ensure the egg never implanted. It was Rose who persuaded Luisa not to do that, and the first episode make

This was enjoyable enough, but it bothered me that the show evidently wanted to pose an obstacle to the Jesse/Wally romance and just didn't bother to think of one. I like both characters and want them to get together, but that writing was painfully bad.

This review does a great job of pointing out the problems with the Mon-El/Kara relationship, and this episode (which should have been better than it was with such a fun villain). It's hard to root for Mon-El when he's this possessive and disrespectful of Kara.

This was a good episode. It's actually the best acting I've ever seen from Katie McGrath, and I liked the idea that she's actually the chess master of the family playing a long game, on her mother or Kara or both.

Have you truly never split a cupcake in half?

I feel you. There are many, many problems with the Martian genocide storyline, but I actually thought M'gann choosing to leave in order to organize other White Martians against genocide was the best thing they've done with that parallel in mind.

Especially since the entire relationship had been played as "Kara wants James, but he's ambivalent" and then the breakup was "Kara has suddenly lost interest, while James still wants her." They should have put them together and actually developed the relationship for a while, and then figured out if it could be made

Seriously, why are we being deprived of M'gann/J'onn and getting stuck with Mon-El/Kara?

To be fair, Vasquez (whose name I assume is a shout-out to Aliens) actually has been a recurring character, often one with lines, since the show began (though she was more noticeable in season 1 when there weren't so many other supporting character). According to IMDB this is her 13th episode.

What I thought was hilarious was that NO ONE in the DEO cared that the real Winn was missing until they figured out they needed him to shut down the nuclear reactor. He's far from my favorite character, but I did want to know where he was.

But come on! I have surprised girlfriends with big romantic gestures, and you NEVER do it without carefully and casually finding out what their plans are in advance!

Great review. I really agree that there was a lot of illogic in the setup, but the lockdown was fun.

Also we needed to see their faces, not a load of CGI, for the scene to work.

WORD.

I agree, but I also think they are the B-couple in all classic senses; they are together and untroubled while Kara/Mon-El are not, and are likely to face conflict when the latter actually get together.
