This is brilliant film. Swinton and Fiennes are excellent - and well supported by Matthias Schoenaerts and Dakota Johnson. It's a remake of a 1960s French film (La Piscine) but cuts its own style. Quite different to anything else around at the moment. Highly recommended.

Yep - and vice versa : )

Different viewpoints are always fascinating, aren't they? I also liked much about Carol. The score, the cinematography, aspects of the performances. However, it is highly stylised (Todd Haynes after all) and relatively pedestrian in its plodding exposition. I didn't think it would be possible for the vibrant life to

I don't get that from this review - but I did consider the possibility during the early part of the film. When the audience first learns that Katya died by falling into a crevice, you tend to think … did she fall or was she pushed? The ambivalence also ties in with Courtenay's evasiveness around this point when

"He never once mentions or characterizes the main lead as depressed. He doesn't mention the alcohol abuse." Neither do many of the people who reviewed this film. You'd have to go out shooting for all of them. And that includes all those who gave highly positive reviews. As for the "central motivations" - again

Hi Mike. You mention that Brody stresses the "irritation, indifference, [and] boredom" evident in Michael Stone - and comment that "While Michael does have these emotions, the movie makes it quite plain that their source, and the driving emotional story for Michael, are his depression, alcoholism…" etc. I don't feel

Nighty night, Dan. Stop sending me love notes. Charlie K will get jealous :)

Dear Petty Tyrant,

Hi sweetie. Nice to see you again - I've been missing you :)

Nice to see a mention for Moon. Sam Rockwell is an awesome actor and Duncan Jones did a terrific job on direction.

She has her moments but is generally over-rated. Her voice in Anomalisa - as in everything - sounds strangulated and as if there is a set of obstructions in her mouth. Not really feminine - but obviously, being the only female in the film, it sounded so by default. If there had been another female voice in the film,

Love the irony. But if you're straight up that's deeply sad and I wish you a more erotically charged life …..

I don't see any big words. Do you mean 'incurious'? Or 'egomaniac'? 'Sidewalk'? 'Shoes'?

You can have 'em all except the vacuum cleaner. I'm attracted to people with allergies (can get under their skin so easily) so … no cleaning up yet. I'll be round to meet Mr Fermilab at your party : )

But I clearly wasn't referring to SNY in my response.

Where or when did Synecdoche NY come into this? I'm afraid it's impossible to have an intelligent exchange with someone who is all over the place and who just makes assertions rather than articulate, coherent and reasoned argument.

Could I just point out …?

Yep - I'm nothing if not a Kaufman fan ;)

The emoticon afterwards gives the clue :)

Well spotted, son. Keep up the good work!
