The Sacrament was a Ti West joint, y'all.

Maybe they just really hate Kate Mara.

Yeah, Mykelti Williamson was the best thing about that movie, and I did enjoy the ever-expanding world-building. A lot of other stuff didn't work quite as well, though I applaud DeMonaco's ambition with the series.

Oddly, when you run the vape boat on the water, it emits smoke.

I did think it was great, and I hate all that you stand for.

I think Anarchy qualifies as a horror movie. There's enough violence, brutality and unsettling tableau in Anarchy to meet the horror threshold as far as I'm concerned. Yes, there were also thrills and suspense, but it's all amidst a setting where anyone can be killed by maniacs at any time during the night. And that

Election Year wasn't nearly as good. Part of the problem was spending all that goddam time on the "I want my candy bar" girl, who was just awful. Plus, it pushed Grillo off to the side much of the time and made him a rather dull and uninteresting character.

The second Purge movie, Anarchy, was great. It's one of my favorite horror movies of this decade. The first Purge was typical home-invasion fare with a silly premise, yet Anarchy managed to expand on it and make it a compelling dystopian nightmare. It was sort of like a hyperviolent The Warriors.

Frankly, I think movies like The Blind Side are more pernicious. They take real people and distort their actual lives for the purpose of a better story.

I would see this for Nacho Vigolondo alone. He's a fun director. I didn't like Timecrimes as much as others, but it was still pretty good, and his segment in VHS Viral stole the show.

Probably something about her being a woman. Unless a male actor behaves outright douchey, like a Shia Lebeouf, or assaults someone, everyone's perfectly cool with him. But a female actor just existing is enough to drive some people bonkers. Maybe they got really pissed off about her Les Miserables Oscar or something.

If I recall, wasn't having a monkey heart also Martin Starr's distinguishing characteristic on Burning Love?

On a more general note, it's interesting how worked up people get over the Conjuring movies because they glorify the Warrens.

There was a lot of goofy stuff in that episode, but I was impressed with how much the season finale redeemed the premiere. For all the complaints about the Glenn and Abraham "shock" deaths, the finale did a really nice job of making those deaths mean something. Plus, they did it poignantly: Gruff Abraham gives an

Amber? I Heardly know 'er.

All these dumb puns should be put in a cemetary. With pets.

Plus, making cute puppy do all the stuff Aubrey Plaza did would probably result in one of those leaked animal-abuse videos.

If you read the interview with Perkins posted a couple days ago, he talks about his desire to create portraiture, which is really what Pretty Thing is. It had a couple legit scares, but I don't think it was trying to be a classic haunted house or scary movie. If anything, it was a meditation on loss—loss of memory,

Except, why would the Shadow King manifest as Lenny in Oliver's imagination? Oliver has no idea who Lenny is.

I don't think it went nowhere. It established a few key points, such as the idea of creating our own ghosts by being trapped in places and memories, or the idea that houses are only borrowed from the dead. And certainly, it did a good job of creating a creepy, haunting vibe. The subtle distortion of her voice alone
