Well, short of an actual peer-reviewed study, I don't know how I'd ever prove something like that. It's my opinion based on what I've seen of the arguments about the movie. If you disagree, fantastic, but I'll have to continue to think you're wrong.

They're watchable if someone is of a mind to look into it, but they don't actively appeal to a generation that was born after they were made as a general rule. Everything about them looks old fashioned and inaccessible to someone raised on modern movie-making techniques.

This is one of the few cases where I don't object to a remake. This story really should be retold to every generation and you can't just show a 40 year-old movie and expect it to still be watchable to a new generation.
