I completely agree. And I love seeing talented writers work.

The best thing they did in the finale was use Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car". It's a metaphor for the whole show. They are all Tracy Chapman. Google the lyrics if you are not familiar with them. One of the best, most devastating songs ever written.
Hell, perhaps only Hannah is Tracy Chapman and the others are her

Seinfeld for the young-uns.

Agreed. One problem with being a fan of the show (and I am) is that at the bottom of everything, these people are more than anything else, reprehensible. I don't think that this was the overall intent of the filmmakers. I think they were trying to hit just the right mixture of good and bad in the characters.

I thought the e-cigs were good. So Marnie.

I'm OK with cliches, if they are done well. there are no new ideas. Just well executed stories.
My beef with this finale is that it in many ways felt like just another episode. Another adventure. But the writing was very sharp, the gags well timed.
But by far my biggest problem with the entire resolution of the show

Time for a likability index. Starting with the most annoying character, and working downward:
Marnie
Hannah
Jessa
Shosh
Adam
Elijah
Ray
Hannah's Dad
Loreen
