Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a masterpiece (at least to me). And I remember watching that early scene of him alone in the infirmary and thinking "I wonder how far John Hurt is from actually dying?" But he was one of the best things in a film full of great things. R.I.P.

Good question. The bombast is closer to what I had in mind.
