My whimsical jibe seems to have been taken as some deadly insult worthy of dire contempt by your friend.

If I could upvote you twice for a post, I (undemocratically) would. That was an interesting read. I dispute his assertion that the purpose of calling a human an ape is a political one. That may be true in the religiously-charged atmosphere of the USA where Creationists do battle with proponents of Evolution on the

They had me at Marissa Tomei.

In fact, keep the Peter stuff, too.

All Rock and Roll bands are the self-proclaimed greatest. I've never met one that wasn't.

Well, you did. But then Barry Allen came by and… Well, Flashpoint.

Thanks. I always like to get my facts right. However, I will say that in this instance, I still find it a horrifying requirement.

Actually, that's both an amusing and interesting point. There is little genetic basis for "race". That's going to sound bogus so I'll explain. Yes there are genetic differences that lead to things like skin colour but, this is the key part, they are not the biggest differences. There can be greater genetic diversity

If the humans win, it will still be a planet of the apes. Humans ARE apes.

All of human history lives up to the current moment. If it all led up to every moment it would infinitely recurse.

You should never be ashamed of your boner, merely position one's newspaper accordingly.

You sound like you would enjoy the clip of her doing the Salmon Ladder. Very impressive to watch.

People who write legal requirements that a character be White when there is no intrinsic reason for the character to be white are the ones I'm talking about.

I don't think Pym said that it was small fry to the Avengers. In fact, I'm pretty sure I recall him saying it was too important to leave to that bunch of yahoos. He also made an ascerbic comment about how he'd spent a lifetime keeping his tech out of the hands of a Stark and wasn't about to just hand it to him now. I

Seems massively unreasonable to me. It means the people who wrote this think that race is a defining quality of a who someone is. I use "defining" in the correct sense.

The character shall not have premarital sex? Please tell me you're joking.

That's rather disturbing. I get a legal requirement to have him be Peter Parker, but to make race a legal requirement of a character's identity is pretty skeezy and makes little sense. It implies that to these people if someone is of a different race, they're a different person.

    Meanwhile in 2019…

I like Kamala Khan. I think her powers risk looking pretty goofy on screen but maybe we're reaching the point in SFX technology where they could actually pull it off without looking bad. For all its innumerable flaws, the SFX on Mr. Fantastic in that awful recent movie were very good.

He certainly looked the part and he seemed talented. It must be a gut-wrench seeing the character get the MCU treatment with someone else. But if he's reading, well - you did get to be a movie star, Mr. Garfield.
