Thanks for the insight. As I said I haven't followed Star Wars as much as some other SF movies.

Although I have seen most of the Star Wars movies I never really followed it closely. I distinguish it as Sci Fi as opposed to Science Fiction. Some critics refer to movies and books such as Star Wars as a "space opera"

I read the P.K. Dick novel after the fact and I think the writers and Scott made some good choices in what they took from the book and what they changed. P.K. Dick is now one of my favorite science fiction writers. Asimov is my favorite. I also like Gibson.

Interesting. Thank you for that explanation. I can see your point although I have never been affected that way. The original, with some notable exceptions, are usually better than the sequel. The movie industry are usually just cashing in on the success of the original.
