The stampede scene in the newer King Kong is what made me hate modern CGI. Jack black is literally running in place while the stupid fake looking Claymation-esque dinosaurs are unrealistically not catching up.
I think that the leathery dry skin of the dinosaurs is MORE realistic than overly shiny skin nowadays. They may render more polygons… but what are they doing with those polygons? The creatures skin in avatar look like wet plastic, the skin of the dinosaurs in JP look like real crocodile skin.
