At its core, GG was a story about a mother, a daughter and their extended family. So having Rory deal with her own daughter and extended family just makes sense to me.

Ach! You're right. I guess I really don't like anything about this
episode then. I've seen it several times over the years and nothing
about it sticks. It just tackles trodden ground but in a much worse way.
