Utena is another great bizarre adolescent anime whose script was written by the FLCL's writer, Yoji Enokido, and I really like it.
But IMHO it's a bit difficult to make something like Utena by putting a teenage girl to FLCL after dropping Naota and most of the original creators including Enokido.

I agree it's just that the fact was confirmed.
It'd be nicer if the Toonami director's answer was clear "yes" or "no", rather than ambiguous "planned", though.

Adult Swim's press release says the protagonist will be a girl, and I think this makes it difficult for them (without the original script writer, and the original director now as a more symbolic supervisor) to put as many enjoyable sexual jokes as the original FLCL has.
It's not that a male writer cannot make good…
