They never once referred to her as "Major Kusanagi" in the 1995 film. They always referred to her as "The Major," or simply "Major." Saying "She was Major Kusanagi, now she's just The Major" is either deliberately dishonest, or shows a complete lack of knowledge about the source material.

How is it racist to say that adapting an IP to a different market isn't a bad thing? Or does it only matter when white people do it?
