    I thought this critique missed the mark. It's not really two parallel stories of explorers; it's a story about one man's redemption by overcoming his anger and fear.

    In general, when it comes to storytelling, dumb characters doing dumb things is not nearly as compelling as intelligent characters doing interesting things. Maybe it makes sense but it feels lazy and deeply disappointing.
