I don't know. I think in this situation, when looking at the figure of Sherlock, within the context of an entire 1/3 of a season/series, it makes complete sense to compare him to that of another similar figure. And it also helps to illustrate the problematic moments some people have had with BBC's Sherlock.

Yes. Agree 100% and I think that is the main problem I had with this season of Sherlock. He was this James Bond rogue type too-cool-for-school. The parts that tried to humanize him just ended up being too campy to feel heartfelt.

I really hated the iconography (good word). That stuff was too shoehorned in.

The best moments in my mind are when John gets to show his fangs. If he wasn't as violent in some ways as Sherlock I wouldn't get their friendship being as weird but healthy for both as I think it is.
