Pfffft! If only!

If they can't reprise their original roles, I'd be open to regular appearances by Lawless as Athena: Goddess of War and Wisdom and O'Connor as Artemis: Goddess of the Hunt and the Amazons.

I think we're talking about different scenarios. I'm not sure I was clear with mine. My ideal scenario would be that they use Lawless and O'Connor in a similar manner to which Leonard Nimoy was used to help launch the Star Trek reboot.
So, it would be both a (temporary) continuation of the original series which

Say what? Lawless and O'Connor should reprise their original roles (i.e. a continuation of their characters). By the end of the series, Gabrielle was anything but a "young innocent child" as she had matured into a formidable warrior.
We all know NBC want younger and more "frackable" women to play Xena and Gabrielle on

This is meaningless unless Xena and Gabrielle will be played by Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor who originated those iconic characters.

FFS, why is every reboot trying to utilise the original stars, EXCEPT for the Xena: Warrior Princess reboot which is going out of its way to ignore utilising Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor in their original, iconic roles as Xena and Gabrielle.
Sure, they want to launch an ongoing series with younger actors, but an

I loved The Middleman, so I'm excited by this news.
But, I'm still highly wary of anything involving NBC, especially given their public comments about the inclusion of Lucy Lawless potentially "overshadowing" the rebooted series.
Maybe Javier can convince NBC to see reason and to include the Flawless Lawless and the

If I had a spare chakram, I'd be aiming it at NBC's offices at this time! Lucy Lawless is Xena! Lawless is the reason why the character survived her initial appearance and went on to headline a successful spin-off for six seasons.
Lawless doesn't want to reprise the role on an ongoing basis, but is open to playing

It would be Gabrielle: Queen of the Amazons with Xena as her second-in-command/army general. Xena was never a princess, so she would never become a queen.
And the title of "Warrior Queen" is somewhat tainted by the fact that her arch-nemsis, Callisto, temporarily used that as her own title.

Lucy Lawless is just managing fan expectations, as is reasonable since according to the articles in both The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly, any "reboot" is in the very EARLY stages.
And, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any reboot will involve Lucy Lawless at all. Although it's acceptable for

Death has never stopped Xena: Warrior Princess!

Um. When has being dead EVER stopped Xena? Xena (and Gabrielle) died plenty of times throughout the series. They can easily "hand wave" Xena being alive with some comment about rumours of her death being greatly exaggerated. There is no need to let such minor technicalities prohibit Lucy Lawless from once again

A land in turmoil cried out for a hero and NBC has finally responded!
It's about bloody time that Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor returned to their roles as Xena and Gabrielle, even if it is just for a couple of episodes to pass along the mantle of "Warrior Princess" (and the chakram) to the Katniss-esque heroine who
