I respectfully disagree. Some of the greatest comedies are built on the try/fail theme (Curb Your Enthusiasm, SideShow Bob plots on the Simpsons, The Honeymooners, Tom and Jerry, every Coyote and Roadrunner, even many episodes of Seinfeld). It's a musical theme and variations, and when done well, is hilarious.
