I think it's because all the PR for the song fell to Thicke himself, who gamely took the opportunity to double down on his scuzzy d-bag image. Pharrell, to the best of my knowledge, just cashed his check, kept quiet and moved on.

I think the trouble is that his public image around the time of Blurred Lines was probably alienating to whatever fans he had before that and Paula was alienating to whatever fans he'd picked up with Blurred Lines. That doesn't leave a whole lot of fans.
I didn't realize Eno sang on this! I totally hear it now that you pointed it out.
Halfway Down The Stairs is beautiful.
For my money, Robin gave one of the most moving renditions of Somewhere Over The Rainbow (besides the Keith Jarrett version) on the original Muppet Show. The arrangement is cheesy as hell, but something about the fragile, wide-eyed sweetness of the character coming through in the vocal performance wrecks me: https://ww…

Agreed. I think it's because it's the first time he hasn't formed some kind of narrative around those personal issues, so it really does sound more like a musical extension of his Twitter rants than any kind of commentary on the same.
Not to mention being such a public figure that you probably don't have time or space to grieve in any kind of healthy way AND the fact that mental health is still kind of a taboo topic in the black community. Kanye gets on my nerves as much as anyone, but I feel so, so bad for him sometimes.
When Yeezus came out I was under the impression that it was the archetypal "dark album" that he needed to get out of his system and the fact that Only One (his loveliest, most good-natured song in years by a long shot) was the followup made me think he'd finally made peace with some of his demons.
