Fuck yeah, Deconstruction. That album is almost like Jane's Addiction goes prog-rock.

From the AV Club's own article about it:

See also: the Freddie Mercury biopic that never got made.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Martyrs ranked as high as it did.

It's like the '90s alt-rock answer to How Do You Sleep?

YES, I'M AWARE I SAY THAT EVERY TIME

This is a new low.

Hey! A new feature that could actually prove to be really interesting! Great Job, AV Club!

Yeah, exactly, which is part of why Ebert's accusations that the film feels exploitative really baffled me. I've always felt like there's a pretty bluntly moralistic element to Lynch's work, it's just not always obvious because he makes you stare so hard at the face of evil for so long that it can sometimes feel like

The violence in Lynch films is never cathartic, just queasy and brutal and unpleasant.

THAT'S THE JOKE

They should call him Patton OsWalt Disney for the sense of joy and wonder that he has instilled in all of us.

Everything I've heard about Friedkin makes him sound like kind of a lunatic and not at all enjoyable to work with.

I really like Don't Tell A Soul a lot, actually. It probably helps that I heard it before I really started getting into them, so I just sort of contextualized as a really solid wimpy adult pop album instead of a really watered-down Replacements album.

Right on. Pop is super-underrated too - I'd argue that it has their best lyrics ever.

Two personal examples I can think of right off the bat: The Final Cut by Pink Floyd (as opposed to The Wall) and Zooropa by U2 (as opposed to… uh… several other U2 albums).

If you factor in his collaborative work, I'd say Eno has been involved in making more good music than virtually anyone on the planet.

See, I thought hipsters were all about appreciating sincere things from a safe, ironic distance. Maybe the term really is meaningless?

Nah, hipsters are already a thing. Nihilism, baby. That's gonna be where it's at.
