I'm inclined to agree. While I enjoyed AFFC and most of ADWD, they're mostly just moving characters around, and if that could have been avoided by going with the original "5 years later" plan, that's what I would have preferred.
But since Martin committed to a higher degree of verisimilitude than the average fantasy…

It's thinking like this that convinced Martin he needed to depict every step of the characters' journeys throughout AFFC and ADWD in agonizing detail so that he didn't flash forward to when things were really interesting. Thus 5+ years between books, and why it may never be finished.

All a timeline would do is give the entire internet ammunition to bitch about how much the Starks have grown on the show.

Well it does have a lot more electronic-tinged sound than their other recent albums, but I don't find it that similar to Kid A. And I know that "it's short" is a common complaint, but I think it's a good length. I don't know, I like the album and I think it's good for quiet contemplation.
