I agree that Tideland is a very harsh, almost traumatic film-watching experience, but it's so beautifully crafted that it stands out anyway. I can respect your reasons, though. Thank you for the elaboration.

Out of curiosity, why do you rank Tideland so low?
Lower than Brothers Grimm?
I'd actually put it as one of his weaker films, although it is incredibly good by any other standard. It's just when you have such incredible films as Brazil and 12 Monkeys, it's tough to beat. My ranking:
1. Brazil
2. 12 Monkeys
3. Baron Munchausen
4. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
5. Tideland
6. Imaginarium of Dr.…
That's a solid critique of the album. It's hard to top Twin Cinema, although I think that every album has a lot to recommend it. Brill Bruisers is certainly a return to form as a pure, cranked-up pop sound, though, making it the most comparable to those two albums.
1. Mutiny, I Promise You (also their best music video)
2. Use It
3. The Bleeding Heart Show
4. Brill Bruisers
5. Challengers
6. Sing Me Spanish Techno
7. Electric Version
8. Moves
9. Crash Years
10. Letter From An Occupant
I was unaware of that. I'd agree it's one of their catchiest, most enjoyable songs, but I'd choose "Mutiny, I Promise You" as the high watermark of catchiness in their catalogue. It also has probably the best music video. "Use It" would be a close second, and "Bleeding Heart Show" can take a solid third. There are…
I'd like to know why, in the reviewer's opinion, every song and album by The New Pornographers is just a failed attempt at matching The Bleeding Heart Show. They have an incredibly solid catalogue, with tracks from every album ranking in the top indie pop tracks ever written, in my opinion. This album is no different-…
It was a fine movie, keeping with the trend of generally excellent movies in 2014 (Transformers and TMNT aside).
I didn't think it was quite as good as the original Sin City, but there were enough highs to make it worth seeing. AA Dowd is full of shit.
I only wish it had made it to theaters in 2007 or so, instead of…
Upvoted because I clicked it and thought the

thing.
Why is Lindelof allowed to write anything at all?
I'd be absolutely shocked if this didn't end up as total garbage.
There's a website called urbandictionary.com that I think you'll find incredibly entertaining.
Ugh, I agree. Romita Jr.'s art has always looked incredibly amateurish to me, and yet he's held up as some sort of icon of distinctive style. Whenever I see his work it always looks like a shabby Frank Miller knock off.
Indeed, Nolan has been pretty up-front about not really being a comic book guy. I remember when he said he didn't want to do a third Batman film because it couldn't live up to The Dark Knight. And by golly, look what happened.
They shouldn't make Aquaman underwear. It has unfortunate subliminal pants-wetting connotations.
It doesn't have to be; Momoa would make an excellent Namor, which I think is probably the angle DC/Warner is going to take, probably to steal some of Marvel's thunder.
Unfortunately it's going to turn out incredibly grimdark and overserious, so the concept will be ruined. But it's a solid one, in theory. I also think…
I heard he disappeared to some space kingdom so that they could reboot him for a gigantic climactic battle scene, too, but that they never got around to it.
Fans have been saying it'll come out for years, but the dates keep getting pushed back.
Also known as "project 2 of 14 that Damon Albarn will record and release in 2014".
Dude is unbelievably prolific.
Yes, as opposed to the incredible difficulty of streaming porn currently. Truly, it would be revolutionary.
I'm sure you think this is funny, but it's actually pretty ignorant and ethnically prejudiced.
Just thought you should know, before you continue this habit of casual, dismissive stereotyping.
This just in: Edgar Wright rumored as director of Marvel's new Ghost Rider film.
