It strikes me as maybe not a smart thing to do, stick up for a movie currently being raked over the coals for it's gratuitous objectification of female characters, when you're helming the first female solo superhero movie in years. One people are rightly still nervous about, despite a fantastic trailer.

Rita: Them, they're looking for hope
Michael: And you?
Rita: HOT POTATO HOT POTATOOOO~~!

Rita Leeds wasn't enough?

You know she's amazing. You know she was in the Olympics?!

Well okay, but I am definitely going to need Mr. F back to really get my hype levels up. Even a cameo, anything! There's way too much comic potential for an all grown up Rita to pass up.

Herpes, I see you laying that bait. Here, have it back. Not taking it.

If anyone else had been making this movie I would have rolled my eyes so hard they would have popped right outta my skull. But with these guys it has a chance of being actually funny without being horrifically sexist? Sounds good. Hopefully more Bridesmaids, less… I don't know, every other comedy movie with a bunch of

No, liver and fava beans. And a nice Chianti.

Kate McKinnon's face as the girl is trying to get her words out is just the best thing.

That would make sense, but how many years has it been since she filmed 12 Years now? Seems like a long time to be resting…

Seriously. Florence Kasumba her name is. Apparently she's going to be in Wonder Woman too and she damn well be back for Black Panther too.

Did you mean "typo"?

Iiiiii'm not sure that was planned. It just doesn't seem sensible marketing to bump a big budget movie down to a dump month just to line it up with an annual observance. If I remember rightly, it was due a summer release, but was bumped to an earlier month so as not to clash with either Spiderman or Ant Man II, I

"Really Quite Upset Max" and all the foreign language selections are just the best. I love that they put Ava Duvernay on the Best Director list too.

I had a little smile to myself when I heard that line. Nice for you guys to get a shout-out.

You're taking issue with the pun as a spelling error when My Little Pony literally calls its lead characters "The Mane Six"?

Star Trek does not work differently unfortunately. Saldana is relegated to the role she always seems to find herself in in these movies; love interest, secondary to the guy, not given anywhere near enough agency or stuff to do (and half the time painted an alien skin tone anyway).
And Alien vs Predator is

It'll be very awesome to see Lupita get to flex her range. She has that angelic face, but so much power and intensity underneath all that. She's the kind of actor who would naturally be cast as a sweet love interest where Danai Gurira would be the more traditional choice for villain. So definitely exciting to see that

Fast and Furious? Can we count that one? Vin Diesel identifies are a person of color, but I don't know if he's black. Put that one in the maybe pile.
The only blockbuster I can think of where a black woman is the indisputable lead actor is Sanaa Lathan in 2004's Predator vs Alien. But even then it's more about the

Mostly because she's implied it. She's talked about how her opportunities in theatre to portray complex black women were substantially more available. And then there's the fact that she seems very willing to take those "popcorn" roles where she is actually offered them, like in Star Wars and Black Panther, so clearly
