I like how everyone who knows him from Misfits is like "Chess Club? WTF are you talking about?"

Nathan!

That was her!? Shit, do I have to start watching the Magicians now?

Someone once asked Grant Morrison about the criticism that Superman was too powerful to be interesting and Morrison's response was along the lines of "Well, as the writer, it's my job to come up with a challenge for him no matter how powerful he is, isn't it?"

I enjoyed the John Wick-tribute shootout scene.

And Maria Hill, of all people, has been consistently funny. Spencer writes her like she's Bugs Bunny.

I keep complaining that the root of a lot of Marvel's problems is that they've degraded their villains while powering up their heroes, to the point that it's hard to take their villains as credible threats.

The current Captain America runs have had Sam Wilson turning into a were-Cap, Misty Knight taking up the shield, and a little girl reading the Red Skull bedtime stories.

Yeah, as someone who doesn't find the current Captain America story inherently a bad idea, the idea that a comic should be panned because the commentary in it is painfully close to what's happening in the real world is … kind of odd.

Wait, do Batman and Superman's sons count?

He died, but got better. Twice, kinda.

The Maker? (who, to be fair, is one of their best new villains of recent vintage.)

I think the better word choice here would have been "isolated successes." As in, the exceptions to the rule largely detached from the interconnected universe.

So many Marvel villains have turned good or been reduced to jokes, they almost have to pit heroes against each other to get a good fight.

Right, while the first one has its problems, fallout like Tony taking over SHIELD, Osborn taking over the Thunderbolts, Luke Cage's team going on the run, Bucky taking over as Cap … all that stuff was very solid.

A think a major weakness is that Carol was much more nuanced in her book and in Ultimates than she was in any of the actual series.

…your user name does not check out.

And that's my point. There are ways to keep all the good things you like about the book, without turning the character into a chump.

I'm sorry that "Hey, if it works, it works. " failed to persuade me.

Cool, cool — what issue does he struggle to beat up a couple of Russian mobsters? And how often is he treated like an incompetent joke?
